ANDI FISCHER

,,OBACHT!se upp’’

9 September - 21 October

I love how rigorous children are in their way of drawing. They’re really strict with the beginning and stopping of lines. When they say they are done they are done, and you can see that in every line. That's what I also wish for my work: to work against roles and maybe also disappoint people in a way. There’s an obvious failure to obtain perfection, which is what makes them so human and vulnerable.

Larsen Warner is pleased to announce the solo exhibition "OBACHT! 'se upp” by Berlin-based artist Andi Fischer (b. 1987). The exhibition marks the artists first solo exhibition in Sweden and will feature new paintings, sculptures and works on paper that reflect Fischer's recent exploration into the theme of 'apocalypse'.

Fischer’s uncompromisingly personal style dispenses with the rules and conventional attitudes that can be gradually placed upon us in our formative years. Instead, Fischer celebrates the spontaneous and intuitive nature of creation. Drawing inspiration from a disparate array of sources, Fischer embraces a sense of playful exploration and direct, clear mark making within his work, that carefully balance elements of child-like naiveté with clear art historical foundations.

Through his use of scribbled hatchings, dot faces, and stick figures, Fischer incorporates characteristics reminiscent of Art Brut. However, this seemingly childlike quality is frequently discarded as strokes and entire sections of the artwork venture into a realm of unrestrained freedom. In these moments, abstractions unexpectedly manifest themselves, whether it be in the form of a bird's wing, a wild animal, or the reduction of human forms. These particular elements within the image are propelled by swift and independent gestures, bringing Fischer's drawing style into close proximity with the realm of Expressionism.

Drawing and painting goes always hand in hand in my works. My way of working is pretty spontaneous, but sometimes mistakes can't be undone due to the materials I use. Making drawings gives me a certain practice and helps translate the motive to a bigger format. The drawings would not exist without the painting and the other way around

Fischer's approach to colour extends beyond simple aesthetics. He understands the symbolic and psychological power of colour, employing it as a means of storytelling and expression. Each colour choice contributes to the narrative of his artwork, conveying themes, concepts, or even cultural references. Fischer’s work reacquaints viewers with an almost childlike capacity for fantasy and creativity, carefully balancing strong playful gestures with an enigmatic cast of characters. With each brushstroke and line Fischer invites audiences into a unique world brimming with colour, whimsy, and imaginative storytelling.

After graduating from the Universität der Künste in Berlin, Fischer received early recognition in 2018 with the prestigious TOY Berlin Masters Award. Selected exhibitions include TATA!
